CASTING CALL for Guilds of Manzoa: Power Metal Musical ROLE AVAILABLE: “The Gillock” - Imaginary, then real ogre the DnD party defeats. VERY TALL. The Gillock is a sensitive soul who just wants to be understood. They sing a heartfelt ballad ALA “Heal the World.” We are looking for a comedic singer/actor who is quite tall. All genders and vocal types are welcome to audition. NO PAY. Volunteer position. Theatre in the Grove

Theatre in the Grove is urgently seeking a young male performer to play the role of Pepper in their upcoming production of Mamma Mia! Character description: Age 18 – 24. Ability to move well and pick up basic choreography required. Pepper is extremely confident and a shameless flirt. This is a featured role and is also in the ensemble. Rehearsals begin March 1st. The show opens April 17th and closes May 3rd and runs Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees. Theatre in the Grove is a volunteer run community theater in Forest Grove, OR. Donna Hayes, grandmother of Moose Quanice Hayes, has written a play giving voice to eight of the many people killed by Portland police, allowing those whose lives have been taken to tell their side of the story and to live again as the wild and wonderful spirits they were before they became hashtags. The play is upbeat, positive, and at times hilarious. The five Black and three white characters with monologs are Kendra James, Christopher Kalonji, Jack Collins, John Elifritz, Brad Lee Morgan, Keaton Otis, Bodhi Phelps, and Moose (Quanice) Hayes. Actors may be cast for multiple roles.The play also has roles for three readers performing comments left on news articles about the killings, and these may be persons of any age, race, or gender. Two understudies will be cast. This is a free public reading, no payment to actors. Auditions, rehearsals, and the first performance of a public reading of the play will be held at First Unitarian Church, 1211 SW Main St, Portland, OR 97205 Auditions: March 7, in Room A108, at 1:30pm Before auditioning, be sure you can commit to the following schedule: Rehearsal #1 Saturday, March 21, Room A108, 1:30pm to 3:30pm Rehearsal #2 Saturday, March 28, Room A108, 1:30pm to 3:30pm Final dress rehearsal Friday, April 17, Eliot Chapel, 5:30pm to 8pm Public reading: Saturday, April 18, Eliot Chapel, 1:30 pm call for 2pm reading Second public reading: Saturday, April 25, Friends Meeting House 4312 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97215, 1:30 pm call for 2pm reading TO AUDITION: Bring a one-minute audition piece or reading of a monolog or poem as a way of introducing yourself. Everyone will be given cold readings and may take ten to thirty minutes to prepare. We will also do some improvisations, and the auditions should be a time of playful exploration. If you have public reading or acting experience, wonderful. If you don’t, this is an opportunity to gain some experience. Donna Hayes, playwright, is the grandmother of Moose Quanice Hayes, killed by Portland police in 2017. This is her first play. She and Kendall will select the cast, will be present for auditions, rehearsals, and public readings, and will collaborate with the cast on the production. Kendall, director, is a retired Professor of Theatre at universities in the USA and southern Africa. She has directed many readings and productions and taught acting to hundreds of students.
